Refractory Fireclays & Coarse Agregates (Grogs)

No. 1 FIRECLAY:
A pan-ground mixture of clays and aggregate with Hallam Fireclay
predominating, light pink in colour.
Maximum particle size is 4.75mm.
Drying shrinkage is low by comparison with straight
clays as is dry (green) strength.
Firing shrinkage is low (ca. 3% linear) as is
fired strength.
Colour is light creamy brown.
No. 2 FIRECLAY:
Pan-ground Rowsley clay possessing fine particle size and high
plasticity, light grey in colour. Some free quartz present
(ca. 20%) with a maximum particle size of 1.5mm.
Drying shrinkage is high as is green strength.
Firing shrinkage is high (ca. 8% linear) as is
strength.
Colour is light bluish grey.
HALLAM FIRE CLAY:
Pan-ground Hallam Clay, a distinctive naturally-occurring blend
of a pure coarse-grained Kaolin and free quartz particles (ca. 35%)
up to 2mm., light pink in colour.
Drying shrinkage is low as is dry (green) strength.
Firing shrinkage is low (ca. 4%) as is fired strength.
Colour is light creamy brown. |
